Applying for the ANZTBCRS Program

Applicants for the ANZTBCRS Program must have successfully completed the Australasian general surgery training and attained their FRACS. For those sitting the first fellowship exam of the year, progression of an application will be dependent upon a pass in that exam.

Applications are accepted from 1 April, closing at 11.59pm AEST on 1 May each year.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to be familiar with the requirements of the Regulations and Policies.

Applications close 1 May at 11.59pm AEST. Late submissions are not accepted.

ANZTBCRS Fellowships

Several Fellowships are available to those applying for a Research Year on the ANZTBCRS Program. These include:

  • Mitchell J Notaras Fellowship – A 3-year fellowship awarded by the University of Sydney in alternate years specifically for colorectal trainees who wish to pursue a career in academic colorectal surgery. It involves at least one year of full-time research as part of a Masters of Surgery at the University of Sydney, one year in an overseas colorectal unit, and one year at RPAH, Sydney.
  • Fred Stephens Fellowship – A 3-year fellowship offered in alternate years specifically for colorectal trainees who wish to pursue a career in academic colorectal surgery. It involves at least one year of full-time research as part of a Masters of Research in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University, one year at Concord Hospital, Sydney and one year in an overseas colorectal unit.
  • ANZTBCRS Medtronic Research Fellowship – A $50,000 one-year scholarship to enable a colorectal trainee(s) to conduct an ANZTBCRS-approved research project.
