Phasing out of gender titling for surgeons

The CSSANZ endorses and supports the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons policy of phasing out gendered titles as a designation for surgeons, and we encourage our members to use the title ‘Dr’ to refer to surgeons in their private or personal practices.

The RACS media release in August outlines this policy is to address issues around patient confusion regarding qualifications, and a subtle implicit bias that can be perpetuated by gendered titles.
