COVID-19 - ANZTBCRS Activities11-03-2020
The Australian and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery is aware of the growing concern around the COVID-19 epidemic. This is producing significant disruption in our day-to-day lives for everyone, and anxiety about the possibility of infection to ourselves, family and colleagues. This situation is changing on a daily basis, and we refer to the Australian Government website for up-to-date information and advice (https://www.health.gov.au/funnelback/search?query=COVID-19).
There are a number of Training Board activities that could be affected by the current situation:
- The current trainees interviews to be held on Monday 11th May at the ASC: We anticipate these interviews will go ahead. If the ASC is postponed the Training Board will endeavour to offer electronic interviews.
- Applicants to the Training Programme for 2021 interviews: The RACS fellowship examination has been postponed. This will impact on our ability to interview / select for our Training Programme. Options being considered include postponing the selection interviews, and completing the interviews but deferring selection and placements until the RACS fellowship exam results are available. The Training Board will give consideration to the best option, and will update information in due course.
- Journal Clubs: The CSSANZ Council last night decided to cancel the April Journal Club, and there will not be one in May because of the ASC. The plans from June and beyond will be announced closer to the time.
- Trainees Weekend (Brisbane, September 4-6): It is too far away to have a fixed plan on this important training activity. All options will be considered, but no decisions can be made at this time.
The Training Board will continue to monitor this situation, and will continue to communicate any changes as needed.
In the mean time we wish everyone good health.
